This is my short, sweet vision
- Students that are engaged in meaningful learning that excites and motivates them – kids that are truly excited about what they're learning!
- Schedules that accommodate the effective integration of Science and Social Studies into our curriculum.
- Teachers that feel they have the freedom to teach creatively.
- Updated Social Studies curriculum that is meaningful to our students.
- New Science curriculum that is hands-on with many manipulatives, an indoor Science lab, and an outdoor Science lab.
- Project-Based Learning!
- Students involved in how and what they learn.
- Collaboration among teachers as well as the whole building.
- A school culture that is open to change, where ideas are discussed/considered without fear.
What a wonderful vision! Friday was truly a wonderful day! It represents our vision so well!
ReplyDeleteYes, Friday was a great day!!! I hope that you and I can do some team teaching next year! :)
DeleteThere are two pieces of your project that I find very interesting/exciting! New science curriculum and social studies curriculum that will make these two subject areas important to students once again! These are two subject areas that need to have more time, money and effort devoted to them!
ReplyDeleteVery well said - I couldn't agree more! Now the hard part, making that possible. If you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them. Thank you, Eric!
DeleteI am so exited for your project! I think that with the new common core standards it will be even more important to find ways to bring science into our day and your project will be a perfect way for students to integrate their learning in a hands-on way! Students often thrive when they can learn by doing!
ReplyDeleteThe vision for your project is very exciting. I commented on Katie's that it will be great to watch what happens to your building (inside and out) because of what you are working on. During April we focus on chicks and over the weekend we had many hatch. The kids will be so excited to see that their hard work of caring for the eggs (turning them each day and keeping the temperature correct) has paid off. We love chick days.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! Chicks! Thank you for commenting, Jenny!

ReplyDeleteOne of the aspects I like about your project is taking the science outside of the classroom. Every spring I try to do a walking field trip to Lakeside where we do a few experiments. It always ends up being fun but labor intensive. To create access to this at the location of the school should make for a nice break from the classroom and provide a new element for science provided at school.
